Universal Announces Then Backtracks on Epic Universe Expansion

On February 18, Universal published an article on its corporate website celebrating NBCUniversal's 100th anniversary that explicitly stated the company is "expanding Universal Epic Universe." This was the first official use of the word "expanding" by Universal.

Two days later, Universal contacted media outlets to say the wording was "a mistake" and revised the article to remove the word. Industry analysts suggested Universal may be strategically avoiding the "Osborne Effect" -- where guests delay current visits to wait for future additions.

The backtrack suggests Universal may be saving a surprise announcement, potentially for a Pokemon or Zelda themed land, for greater marketing impact at a later date.
