Disney World's District Is Selling Its Decommissioned Power Plant Equipment for $22 Million to Clear Space for Expansion

Buried in a July 24 board packet, overshadowed by the district's same-day move toward 2045 growth caps, Resolution 687 sells the Central Energy Plant's gas and steam turbines, generators and heat recovery equipment to recycling and demolition firm S&S Recycling & Demolition, which outbid GE Vernova and four others. Everything must be removed and the site restored before March 31, 2027.

The scare zone is called Downtown Clowntown, it takes over the New York area of Universal Studios Florida, and it adds a second horror-movie clown to the mix in Art the Clown from the Terrifier films.

More Scrim Comes Off the Haunted Mansion and the Facade Underneath Has Changed: Green Cupola, Darker Brick, Lighter Stone

After roughly six months behind scaffolding and scrim, Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion is starting to reappear, and it does not look the way it did before the work began. The cupola dome is green, the brick is noticeably darker, and the stone trim has been lightened, undoing the even-toned look the building had settled into by 2011. Disney has said nothing about the work, and one wall near the exit is still visibly half-finished.

Warner Bros. Discovery has finally said what Universal Orlando is actually doing for Back to Hogwarts, and it starts in nine days. Running August 1 through September 1, the celebration brings a limited-edition Butterbeer mug stamped "25 Years of Magic," a park-exclusive Build-A-Bag collection from luggage brand Lug, and special food and beverage offerings at Universal Orlando. All eight films also return to theaters worldwide from August 27, and the 25th anniversary re-release of Sorcerer's Stone carries 12 minutes of never-before-seen footage.

On Comcast's second quarter earnings call Thursday morning, co-CEO Mike Cavanagh said attendance across the broader Orlando market began to soften in June and that the trend has continued into the third quarter, while CFO Jason Armstrong said growth in Orlando came in below expectations. Executives described a strong guest response to Epic Universe. Theme Parks revenue rose 2.7% to $2,413 million for the quarter while adjusted EBITDA fell 5.1% to $609 million.
