Blog Mickey spotted an operator in the Piston Peak National Park tower crane on October 1, the first time the outlet had seen it move. The outlet did not see it lift anything yet, but from Liberty Square the jib appears to reach at least a few feet over a guest walkway.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Evacuated Sunday Over a Reported Fire, Then Closes Again Monday Alongside Tiana's

A guest says cast members cleared the Magic Kingdom coaster's queue Sunday afternoon, and another says a cast member called it a fire. Disney has not confirmed it. On Monday Big Thunder went down again, a few hours after Tiana's Bayou Adventure closed and had most of its water drained.

Ichabod's Landing Has Been Demolished Beside the Haunted Mansion Gates, and Frontierland's Boardwalk Is Now Walled Off End to End

The gift shop next to the Haunted Mansion entrance is not closed for Piston Peak construction. It is gone, and the Mike Fink Keel Boats landing beside it came down back in May. Construction walls sealed the last open stretch of boardwalk this week, and Disney has started papering them with vintage style Frontierland ads referencing Doctor Terminus, Slue-Foot Sue and the Hundred Acre Wood.

Disney Named Monstropolis' Main Street Dark Avenue, and Imagineers Say Piston Peak Buildings Were Shortened After a Balloon Test Came Back Too High

Walt Disney Imagineering put out a new We Call It Imagineering episode on Friday, a 24-minute architecture tour that stops in on four Walt Disney World projects. The headline is a name nobody had heard before: Dark Avenue, the main street running through Monstropolis to the Monsters, Inc. factory that will house the suspended door coaster. The same episode explains what balloons like the one we wrote about on August 12 are for. Imagineers say the first Piston Peak sightline test showed some elevations were a little too high, and structures were shortened before a second test came back right on the money.

Vekoma Says It Installed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's New Track and Trains, and Ties the Work to the Lowered 38 Inch Height Requirement

Dutch coaster manufacturer Vekoma went public on Thursday with its role in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's 16 month refurbishment, saying it installed a new track and passenger trains at Magic Kingdom. Disney described the same work in May without naming a manufacturer. Vekoma ties the lowered 38 inch height requirement to the new hardware plus a comprehensive safety review, and closes with an argument for revitalizing old rides instead of replacing them.
