The Walt Disney Company is in the midst of one of its most significant leadership transitions in decades. With Josh D'Amaro set to succeed Bob Iger as CEO on March 18, the question on every Disney fan's mind is: who will lead the parks?

According to Bloomberg, the answer is Thomas Mazloum, the current President of Disneyland Resort — and an announcement could come as early as this week.

From Cruise Ships to the Magic Kingdom

Born in Austria and trained in hotel management at Innsbruck, with additional studies at Cornell University, the Hotel School of Lausanne, and the Hotel School of Salzburg, Mazloum's career has always revolved around world-class hospitality.

His journey began in 1990 with the launch of Crystal Cruises' first ship, the Crystal Harmony, where he started as a receptionist and worked his way up to hotel director. That hands-on, from-the-ground-up approach would become a hallmark of his leadership style.

Mazloum first joined Disney in 1998 as a Hotel Director for Disney Cruise Line, where he played a key role in launching the Disney Wonder — Disney's second cruise ship — managing nearly 700 cast and crew members from 52 countries. He also served as General Manager of Food & Beverage and Special Events at EPCOT.

A Stint in Luxury Cruising — Then Back to Disney

In 2002, Mazloum returned to Crystal Cruises as Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations. Over 15 years, he rose to Chief Operating Officer, helping define what the company called "The Crystal Experience" and overseeing a period of growth that culminated in a $550 million acquisition by Genting Hong Kong in 2015.

But Disney called again. In 2017, Mazloum returned as Senior Vice President of Resort and Transportation Operations at Walt Disney World, overseeing all 31 resort hotels, Disney Springs, ESPN Wide World of Sports, Club 33, and the entire Walt Disney World transportation network.

Rising Through the Ranks

In May 2020, Mazloum was named President of Disney Signature Experiences, a portfolio that includes some of Disney's most premium and guest-facing brands:

  • Disney Cruise Line
  • Disney Vacation Club
  • Adventures by Disney
  • National Geographic Expeditions
  • Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii
  • Golden Oak luxury residences
  • Disney Institute
  • Storyliving by Disney

Under his watch, Disney committed to doubling its cruise fleet by 2031, including building a second private island destination in The Bahamas and expanding to new ports worldwide — one of the most aggressive expansions in the cruise industry.

Leading Disneyland Into Its Next Era

In January 2025, Mazloum was named President of Disneyland Resort, taking over from Ken Potrock. He now leads 36,000 cast members across Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, three resort hotels, and the Downtown Disney District.

He's currently shepherding two major initiatives: the Disneyland 70th Anniversary celebration and DisneylandForward — the ambitious expansion framework that will unlock new growth opportunities in Anaheim for the next 40 years.

A Leader Who Leads by Example

Those who have worked with Mazloum consistently point to his hospitality-first mindset and servant leadership style. Speaking at the 2019 Disney Institute Customer Experience Summit, he shared a philosophy that resonates throughout his career:

"You can't successfully influence anyone else unless you're willing to lead by example. People love to work for leaders who are not afraid to admit mistakes and embrace vulnerability, as it is a sign of strength."

Josh D'Amaro himself has praised Mazloum and the leadership bench at Disney Experiences, noting that leaders like Mazloum bring "extensive technical and operational expertise with strong insight and understanding of the guest experience, and qualities that promote innovation, creativity, and results."

What This Could Mean for Disney Parks

If confirmed, Mazloum would take over Disney Experiences — the division responsible for all Disney theme parks worldwide, cruise ships, resorts, and consumer products. It's the company's most profitable division and the engine behind Disney's current $60 billion investment plan.

His track record suggests several things fans can be optimistic about:

  • Guest experience focus: His entire career has been built on hospitality. He started at the front desk, not in a boardroom.
  • Operational excellence: Managing 31 Walt Disney World hotels and the entire Signature Experiences portfolio proves he can handle scale.
  • Expansion mindset: The cruise fleet doubling and DisneylandForward show he's comfortable making big bets on growth.
  • International perspective: Born in Austria, educated across Europe, experienced in global cruise operations — he brings a worldview that matches Disney's global parks footprint.
  • Luxury and premium understanding: His Crystal Cruises background and oversight of Golden Oak and Club 33 show he understands how to deliver premium experiences — important as Disney leans into higher-end offerings.

The Bottom Line

Thomas Mazloum isn't a household name — yet. But his quiet, methodical rise through Disney's ranks over a quarter century tells its own story. He's a hospitality lifer who has touched nearly every corner of Disney's guest-facing operations, from cruise ship decks to theme park gates to luxury residences.

If Bloomberg's reporting holds, Disney's parks division will soon be led by someone who has literally done every job in the building. And for Disney fans hoping the company's massive investment in parks and experiences stays on track, that should be very encouraging news.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge Battles a Days-Long AC Outage During a Central Florida Heat Wave

A stay at one of Walt Disney World's flagship Deluxe resorts is not supposed to come with a box fan, but that has been the reality for some guests at Disney's Wilderness Lodge this week. The main building's central air conditioning has been down since Thursday, June 18, just as Central Florida sweltered under back-to-back heat advisories with feels-like temperatures topping 105 degrees. By Monday, June 22, Disney had trucked in temporary chillers and portable spot coolers and many guest rooms had cooled back down, though the Grand Lobby and some interior spaces stayed warm, and the central system was not yet fully restored. Disney has not commented publicly.

Universal Files Permits for a 71,500-Square-Foot Building in Epic Universe's Dark Universe

Universal Files Permits for a 71,500-Square-Foot Building in Epic Universe's Dark Universe

Something big is taking shape in the spookiest corner of Epic Universe. A new permit filing points to a building of roughly 71,500 square feet planned for the heart of Darkmoor Village, the classic-monsters town inside the park's Dark Universe world, with Stantec Architecture listed on the paperwork. That footprint is on par with full attractions at Epic Universe, like the Mario Kart ride and the Untrainable Dragon show, so this is no gift shop. Universal will only say that permit filings are routine and that it has no further details to share, which leaves the fun question wide open: a new monster ride, a theater, or something else entirely?
