About this Ride

Disney has not announced a name for this attraction. It is the signature ride of Monstropolis, the first land inspired by Monsters, Inc., built partly on the former Grand Avenue and Muppets Courtyard site at Hollywood Studios. Disney says it will be the first suspended coaster at a Disney park and the first with a vertical lift, raising riders about 40 feet in roughly four seconds before launching them into the film's door vault. At D23 in August 2026 Disney said the rest of Monstropolis will open in 2027 while work continues on this coaster, formally separating the ride from the land's opening. Disney has not given the coaster an opening date, season or year.

The Monsters, Inc. Coaster's M Shaped Load Station Went Up in Steel, and You Can See It From the Hollywood Studios Parking Lot

Blog Mickey published photos of curved steel ribs inside the Monstropolis show building on Tuesday, with multiple pairs of them appearing to be installed, forming the M shaped load and unload station for the Door Vault coaster. The silhouette matches the concept model Imagineering showed at D23 in 2024, and those arches exist to carry what Disney says will be the first vertical lift system at a Disney park.
