The Book of the Dead is getting a Florida address. Universal announced on Tuesday that Evil Dead Burn, the franchise installment currently playing in theaters, is becoming a haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 35 at Universal Studios Florida.

What Universal is actually saying about the house

Universal's official HHN 35 lineup page describes the house this way: "The Book of the Dead has been reopened, and now an infernal force consumes a family home." The page adds that guests will dodge possessed Deadites inside a haunted house based on the new film.

ClickOrlando reports that guests will "navigate the Price family's secluded woodland vacation home before encountering ferocious Deadites at every turn."

Universal's press materials, as published by Daily Dead, say the house takes guests "on a terrifying firsthand journey through the film's most frightening moments."

Nine houses down, and Universal has not finished

Evil Dead Burn brings Universal's official lineup page to nine announced haunted houses, a list the company frames as "everything I can reveal (so far)." ClickOrlando describes Universal Orlando's event as featuring 10 all-new haunted houses, which would leave one still to be named.

The nine announced so far:

  • Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control

  • Sinners

  • Stranger Things 5

  • Hellraiser

  • Evil Dead Burn

  • H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!

  • MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals

  • Cybergoria

  • INVASION: Alien Abduction

Dates, and where the reporting differs

Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs on select nights from August 28 through November 1 at Universal Studios Florida, according to Universal's own lineup page. Premium Scream Night, which Universal bills as a separate exclusive event with shorter wait times and select all-you-care-to-enjoy food, takes place on August 27 and October 19.

That August 27 date is worth flagging, because outlets including ClickOrlando and The Hollywood Reporter wrote the event window as August 27 through November 1. Universal's own lineup page separates the two, listing August 27 as Premium Scream Night and August 28 as the first night of the main run. Neither outlet explains the difference.

Daily Dead reports the house will also run at Universal Studios Hollywood, where Halloween Horror Nights runs September 3 through November 1.

Merchandise is already out

Per Daily Dead, all-new limited-release Evil Dead Burn merchandise went on sale in the parks on Tuesday, July 21, and arrives on shopUniversal.com on Wednesday, July 22 at 9 a.m. PT. The line includes a t-shirt, a hat, and an acrylic figure designed for the event's infernal carnival collectible display.

The rest of the lineup so far

Universal's page also lists two scare zones, Infernal Carnival of Nightmares and Sideshow of Decay, plus two shows, Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir and Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins. The page notes that Halloween Horror Nights was named the "Golden Ticket Legend for Best Halloween Event" by Amusement Today.

Walt Disney Imagineering put out a new We Call It Imagineering episode on Friday, a 24-minute architecture tour that stops in on four Walt Disney World projects. The headline is a name nobody had heard before: Dark Avenue, the main street running through Monstropolis to the Monsters, Inc. factory that will house the suspended door coaster. The same episode explains what balloons like the one we wrote about on August 12 are for. Imagineers say the first Piston Peak sightline test showed some elevations were a little too high, and structures were shortened before a second test came back right on the money.

Vekoma Says It Installed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's New Track and Trains, and Ties the Work to the Lowered 38 Inch Height Requirement

Dutch coaster manufacturer Vekoma went public on Thursday with its role in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's 16 month refurbishment, saying it installed a new track and passenger trains at Magic Kingdom. Disney described the same work in May without naming a manufacturer. Vekoma ties the lowered 38 inch height requirement to the new hardware plus a comprehensive safety review, and closes with an argument for revitalizing old rides instead of replacing them.
