The Mystery Building Next to Haunted Mansion Is a Restroom, and the D23 Model Shows Villains Land Will Not Connect to the Mansion

A January 2026 permit put a small structure right beside the Haunted Mansion, and the guessing quickly landed on a bar or lounge. Months of speculation followed.

It is a restroom building.

Blog Mickey spent time with the Piston Peak National Park scale model on the floor of D23 Expo 2026 and reported Wednesday that the mystery building is marked on the model as a restroom facility. In the outlet's photos, a sign over the building's timber porch reads RESTROOMS. The same model answers the other question fans had been asking about this corner of the park, and that answer is a no as well.

What people thought it was

Blog Mickey reports that a January 2026 permit laid out where individual buildings would go in Villains Land and in Piston Peak National Park, and that among them was "a small, roughly 5,800-square-foot structure sitting directly next to Haunted Mansion." An earlier permit in October 2025, per the same outlet, outlined 33 acres of construction impact across the area.

Blog Mickey had raised the bar possibility itself at the time, wondering in print whether the structure might be a Haunted Mansion bar or parlor. The outlet noted that the format had worked for Disney Cruise Line and for Beak & Barrel in Adventureland.

The model's verdict, in the outlet's words: "not a Beak & Barrel-style Haunted Mansion-themed bar, unfortunately."

The second theory the model kills

The other running fan theory was that Disney would tie the Haunted Mansion into Villains Land, given that the two share a backstage border and a broadly spooky sensibility. Some went further and suggested the mansion's entrance might be flipped so it was reached only from the new land.

Neither happens on the model. "There's no walkway, gate, or thematic tie-in connecting the two on the model," Blog Mickey wrote. On the model the restroom building itself stands between them, screening the mansion's grounds from the entrance walkway toward Villains Land.

That does not seal the mansion off. The model still shows walking routes running past it into Piston Peak and Villains Land. The attraction just does not become part of either. Per the report, "the mansion itself stays its own self-contained attraction, remaining part of Liberty Square."

Why a scale model beats a permit

Permits give you footprints and drain lines. They do not tell you what a building is for. Blog Mickey notes that it had worked backward from the drain lines plotted in the October 2025 filing to theorize how the two lands would be arranged, and that while the broader shape held up, its exact building placements were off.

Existing Frontierland and Liberty Square buildings were modeled in for context, the outlet notes, among them an unthemed, roughed-in stand-in for the Haunted Mansion itself. That context is why the model could settle a question no filing could.

The model sat in the Imagineering: Horizons pavilion at D23 Expo 2026 for all three days of the event. Blog Mickey called it the highlight of the pavilion.

One more thing on the model, with a caveat

Blog Mickey separately reported on August 25 that a wooded, self-contained path beside the Haunted Mansion appears on the model, and reads it as a new extended queue for the attraction. That is the outlet's interpretation rather than anything Disney has stated, so treat it as a read of the model and not a confirmed plan. In its Wednesday report, the outlet adds that the path does not connect to Villains Land either.

Villains Land and Piston Peak National Park are both under construction at Magic Kingdom.
