Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge Lost Water Pressure Saturday, and Disney Is Moving Some Guests to Old Key West and Saratoga Springs

Running water is the one thing a hotel is not supposed to make you think about. Since Saturday afternoon, guests at Boulder Ridge, one of the Disney Vacation Club villa buildings at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, have been dealing with the lack of it.

WDWMagic reported late Sunday afternoon that a water outage is affecting guests staying in the villas, with guest accounts placing the start of the problem at roughly 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 8. Inside the Magic, which picked up the story about two hours later and linked back to the WDWMagic report, said the outage was still an issue into Sunday.

What guests are reporting: water pressure that has dropped to almost nothing, and toilets that will not flush. One guest account posted to Reddit and relayed by WDWMagic said there is "hardly any water pressure on faucets and toilets don't flush." That is a guest report rather than anything the two outlets attribute to Disney, and it is worth holding it at that arm's length, but multiple guests have described the same two symptoms.

Disney's response so far: some guests are being moved to Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Disney's Old Key West Resort. WDWMagic also reports refunds and adjustments to guests' bills, and says that applies both to guests who take the move and to guests who choose to stay put at Boulder Ridge. Inside the Magic notes that guests still in the villas who are having trouble should raise it directly with Cast Members.

Relocating mid-trip is not a clean fix. Inside the Magic points out that guests may have to pack up again, shift their luggage and redo their transportation plans. Our read is that a hotel does not put guests through that as a courtesy, though neither outlet has reported how bad conditions in the affected rooms actually are.

The second failure in under two months

This is where the story stops being a one-off maintenance headache. WDWMagic framed this as the resort's second infrastructure problem in recent months, and the June comparison is sharper than it first looks.

On Thursday, June 18, an air conditioning outage began at Wilderness Lodge and ran for several days, hitting the lobby, guest rooms and two table service restaurants during a heat advisory at Walt Disney World. By the next day Whispering Canyon Cafe and Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White had both closed for the day, while Roaring Fork, a quick service location at the resort, stayed open. Guests reported at the time that Disney moved people to other resorts where it could and handed free nights to those who stayed, which makes this weekend's response look like the same playbook.

Here is the part worth noticing. In June, WDWMagic reported that Boulder Ridge, which it described as the resort's Disney Vacation Club wing, appeared to be unaffected. This time the outage is centered on Boulder Ridge, and Inside the Magic reports that the trouble appears confined to part of the resort rather than all of it. Two separate systems, two separate failures, and between them they have now hit both the main lodge building and the Boulder Ridge villas in the space of 51 days.

What we still do not know

Neither outlet has a cause, and neither has a repair window. WDWMagic said no explanation had surfaced yet, and Inside the Magic said the same was still true on Sunday evening. Neither outlet reported a public Disney statement on either point.

Wilderness Lodge is classified as a Deluxe resort, and it sits on Bay Lake, opposite Magic Kingdom. The Boulder Ridge villas stand beside the main lodge and are part of the resort's Disney Vacation Club side. Neither outlet has explained why the bill adjustments are reaching guests who stay put, and neither has said how that offer works for members who booked on points rather than cash.
