Epic Universe's First Major Expansion Confirmed: Harry Potter Ministry of Magic Land Set to Grow

Universal Epic Universe hasn't even celebrated its first birthday yet, but its first major expansion is already taking shape. Newly updated construction permits filed with Orange County have all but confirmed what many fans suspected: the park's initial expansion will be an enlargement of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic.

The Permit That Confirmed It

A construction permit for 1001 Epic Blvd — Epic Universe's official address — was recently updated to reference "Area P905," the internal project codename for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. The permit covers 150,000 square feet of new construction, roughly the size of the existing Ministry of Magic land itself. The work type is listed as "New Construction" with "Site Utilities and Foundation Work" as the scope, and the permit lists a completion date of May 7, 2026.

What's Happening on the Ground

Aerial photographer @bioreconstruct has documented active dirt work and land leveling in Celestial Park since December 2025. Construction walls have gone up near Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets, between Other Worlds Mercantile and the SUPER NINTENDO WORLD entrance. Additional permits for semi-permanent construction trailers near the Harry Potter land suggest this is no small project.

Approximately 20,000 square feet of land has been cleared in preparation, with mapping tools indicating over 100,000 square feet of usable space within Celestial Park for development.

What Could Be Coming

Universal has not officially announced what attractions or experiences the expansion will include. The existing Ministry of Magic land already features a groundbreaking dark ride through the British Ministry of Magic and the immersive Le Cirque Arcanus show. Industry speculation ranges from a new ride experience to expanded retail and dining, or possibly an entirely new sub-area within the Wizarding World.

Karen Irwin, President and COO of Universal Orlando Resort, has publicly stated: "We're already planning for the next thing at Epic," confirming that the park was intentionally designed with growth in mind. Epic Universe's hub-and-spoke layout — with Celestial Park at the center — includes several expansion pads specifically reserved for future development.

A Bigger Picture

Separately, a $20.6 million events building project — dubbed "P915" — is also under construction in Celestial Park. This 53,886-square-foot venue is expected to host corporate events, fan conventions, and private celebrations with capacity for up to 1,400 guests, further reinforcing Universal's long-term investment in the Epic Universe campus.

Between the Harry Potter expansion, the events venue, ongoing drone show testing for potential nighttime spectaculars, and expanded Power-Up Band interactive features, Epic Universe is shaping up to be a park that evolves rapidly — something theme park fans have been hoping for.

We'll continue to track construction progress and update as Universal makes official announcements.
