Volcano Bay Nights Opens: 14 After-Hours Pool Parties Through August 21, $99 a Head with Parking and a Moonlit Krakatau

The lava lamp flips on tonight. Universal Orlando opens its 2026 run of Volcano Bay Nights this evening, May 3, kicking off a 14-night summer schedule that turns the entire water park into an after-hours pool party with a DJ, a moonlit Krakatau Aqua Coaster, and DreamWorks characters wandering Waturi Beach.

This is Universal's first hard event launch since the May 1 reveal of the Blockbuster Summer 2026 lineup, and the dates are sneaky-clever: May leans almost entirely Sunday, June pivots to Thursday and Friday, and July through August lock onto Fridays. Translation: Universal is using the event to fill the soft midweek nights of summer with paid programming.

The headline numbers

  • 14 nights, May 3 to August 21. Full list: May 3, 10, 17, 22, 31; June 5, 12, 18, 25; July 10, 17; August 7, 14, 21.
  • $99 plus tax per person. Parking included, which is a meaningful add when Volcano Bay self-park usually runs an extra fee on top of admission.
  • Passholder discount: 10% off with a valid Annual or Seasonal Pass and photo ID.
  • Event runs from 7 p.m. into the evening. Gates open at 4 p.m. for daytime water park access, so a Volcano Bay Nights ticket effectively gets you several daylight hours of slides plus the after-hours half (Universal lists the public after-hours block on the ticket page).
  • Cabanas from $199.99 plus tax, first-come first-served, booked in-park.

What is open after dark

The event keeps the marquee slides running after sundown:

  • Krakatau Aqua Coaster. The flagship water coaster, illuminated.
  • Ko'okiri Body Plunge. The 70-degree drop slide.
  • TeAwa the Fearless River. The aggressive, fast-moving "lazy" river.

The party itself

Universal is layering the slides with a Waturi Beach Bash featuring a live DJ, character meet-and-greets with DreamWorks Animation characters from Shrek and Madagascar, and complimentary food and drink: Blue Raspberry Churro Bites, Garlic Parmesan-Flavored Popcorn, and a Volcano Bay Freestyle Souvenir Cup with access to 100-plus Coca-Cola refill options.

It is a real event, not just "the water park stays open later." If you have done the daytime Volcano Bay loop before, the after-dark version is a different vibe: lit volcano, fewer kids, longer slide windows.

Where it fits in the May calendar

Universal's May programming is stacked back to back. Here is the order of operations through the next three weeks:

  • Today, May 3: Volcano Bay Nights opens.
  • Through May 21: Passholder Bonus Benefits keeps running (free Transformers-themed magnet, $5 merchandise credit on $10-plus purchases, up to 30 percent off select hotel nights, plus the Voodoo Viking Bee Sting passholder doughnut).
  • May 23: Blockbuster Summer 2026 launches. The Mega Movie Parade returns the same day, and JAWS-themed experiences spin up at Universal Studios Florida.
  • May 30: Hogwarts Always projection show returns at Islands of Adventure as part of Blockbuster Summer.

If you are stacking a May trip, Volcano Bay Nights bridges the gap between the early-month pass benefits and the late-May Blockbuster Summer kickoff. May 22 is the only Friday Volcano Bay Nights date in May, slotting in the night before Blockbuster Summer hits.

Quick planner notes

  • The cabana math is friendlier than it looks. Split a $199.99 cabana four ways, stacked on $99 tickets, and you are at roughly $149 per person all-in for a private cabana with the slides included.
  • Get there before 7 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m., which gives you three daylight hours of slides before the after-hours half kicks in. The full-day operating hours are why $99 has any chance of penciling.
  • Annual and Seasonal Passholders, bring your ID. The 10 percent discount is at the gate, not pre-loaded.
  • Souvenir cup is included. No need to double-buy a Freestyle cup at lunch.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge Battles a Days-Long AC Outage During a Central Florida Heat Wave

A stay at one of Walt Disney World's flagship Deluxe resorts is not supposed to come with a box fan, but that has been the reality for some guests at Disney's Wilderness Lodge this week. The main building's central air conditioning has been down since Thursday, June 18, just as Central Florida sweltered under back-to-back heat advisories with feels-like temperatures topping 105 degrees. By Monday, June 22, Disney had trucked in temporary chillers and portable spot coolers and many guest rooms had cooled back down, though the Grand Lobby and some interior spaces stayed warm, and the central system was not yet fully restored. Disney has not commented publicly.

Universal Files Permits for a 71,500-Square-Foot Building in Epic Universe's Dark Universe

Universal Files Permits for a 71,500-Square-Foot Building in Epic Universe's Dark Universe

Something big is taking shape in the spookiest corner of Epic Universe. A new permit filing points to a building of roughly 71,500 square feet planned for the heart of Darkmoor Village, the classic-monsters town inside the park's Dark Universe world, with Stantec Architecture listed on the paperwork. That footprint is on par with full attractions at Epic Universe, like the Mario Kart ride and the Untrainable Dragon show, so this is no gift shop. Universal will only say that permit filings are routine and that it has no further details to share, which leaves the fun question wide open: a new monster ride, a theater, or something else entirely?
