Demolition Has Reached Mythos, and Part of Its Rockwork Is Coming Off the Back of the Restaurant Facing the Islands of Adventure Lagoon

For months the construction walls in The Lost Continent have been closing in on Mythos. Now the demolition has reached the restaurant itself.

In an update posted Sunday, October 25, Attractions Magazine reported that demolition work has reached the back of Mythos Restaurant at Universal Islands of Adventure. Its new video, filmed from across the lagoon, shows that "a large section of the restaurant's themed rockwork has been removed, exposing the underlying structure."

What the new video shows

Attractions Magazine's report describes three changes:

  • Rockwork removed: a large section of the themed rock on the back of Mythos is gone, with the structure underneath now showing.
  • A barrier in the lagoon: a yellow turbidity barrier floats in the water where the rockwork meets the lagoon (WDW News Today reported it there on October 8, in aerial photos by bioreconstruct). Turbidity barriers are floating curtains used to keep silt and debris stirred up by nearby work from spreading through the water.
  • The back path is closed: a construction wall now cuts off the walkway that runs behind Mythos, so guests can no longer pass through there.

The magazine titled its video "Exterior Demolition Begins at Mythos in Islands of Adventure." Neither Attractions Magazine nor WDW News Today included comment from Universal.

Is Mythos still open?

Yes. WDW News Today, reporting on the same demolition work on October 25, said Mythos "remains open to guests." It is still scheduled to close in 2027, and Universal has not announced a final day. Attractions Magazine's Lost Continent construction tracker, last updated in July, listed Mythos as still operating and warned that the construction walls make it "difficult to tell that Mythos Restaurant remains open."

If Mythos is on your list, it would be worth confirming it is open before you plan a visit around it.

How we got here

Universal confirmed in May that Mythos would close in 2027 as The Lost Continent closes in phases to make way for a new themed land. Universal also said Thunder Falls Terrace in Jurassic Park would close in summer 2026, then return in 2027 as the park's new signature full-service restaurant.

Since then the walls have kept moving. In July, construction walls went up directly in front of Mythos, and in September the Treasures of Poseidon gift shop was torn down. Universal still has not said what the new land will be.

Mythos opened with Islands of Adventure in 1999, and its cavernous dining room has long been a must-do for repeat Universal fans.
