Disney Named the Encanto Ride Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto, and Said It Will Have No Height Requirement

On Saturday afternoon, the Encanto attraction coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom still did not have a name. Imagineering had put its ride vehicle maquettes on the D23 floor, along with a cutaway model of a scene inside Casita and a fully furred animated figure of Chispi the capybara, and every piece sat behind a placard that read only ENCANTO ATTRACTION.

Later that day, from the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress stage at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney gave it one. The ride will be called Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto.

Quick facts: Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto is one of two headline attractions in Tropical Americas, the land replacing DinoLand U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom. The other is Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. The land is slated to open in 2027, and Disney has not announced an opening date for the Encanto ride itself.

The title puts Antonio in front, not Mirabel

The name is worth a second look, because it is not the one most people would have guessed. Encanto is Mirabel's story. Antonio is her younger cousin, and his gift ceremony, the night he learns he can talk to animals, is one of the film's early set pieces rather than its climax.

Disney built the ride on that ceremony. Guests arrive at Casita for Antonio's gift day, and the emotional beat Imagineering described is that everyone belongs to the same familia of living things, whatever their gifts. Naming the ride after Antonio is accurate to what the ride actually is, and it quietly signals that this is not a retelling of the movie.

Three voice actors from the film are returning to record for the attraction: Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel, Jessica Darrow as Luisa and Diane Guerrero as Isabella. Disney played a behind the scenes video of the sessions, with Darrow saying Encanto is "sort of a perfect film to take all these colors and excitement out of and allow audiences to immerse themselves in it."

That cast list was presented as a partial one. Disney did not say whether Ravi Cabot-Conyers, who voiced Antonio in the film, is among the returning performers. For a ride carrying Antonio's name, that is the detail to watch for next.

No height requirement, in context

Imagineering confirmed the ride will have no height requirement. That is useful for planning, but it is worth being precise about what it signals, because at Animal Kingdom a ride without a height minimum is the rule rather than the exception.

Only three attractions in the park post a minimum today: Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest at 44 inches, and Kali River Rapids at 38 inches. Na'vi River Journey, Kilimanjaro Safaris, TriceraTop Spin and the Wildlife Express train have none. Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto joins that second group.

So the useful read is not that Disney made an unusual accessibility choice. It is that the ride is being built in the Na'vi River Journey mold, a gentle family ride that every member of a party can board, rather than as a second thrill headliner alongside Flight of Passage.

More than 50 animals, and a room that becomes a rainforest

Imagineering said the ride vehicles represent pieces of furniture assembled by Casita's own power to carry guests through the house, and that they feel "lively and dynamic, reacting like characters themselves" to the scenes unfolding around them. That matches the maquettes shown on the D23 floor, one fronted by an upright piano and one by a blue dresser, which we covered on Saturday.

The route ends upstairs in Antonio's room, which the attraction transforms into a dense rainforest. Disney put a number on the animals for the first time: more than 50 are represented inside the ride. A few were shown in motion, including a capybara getting a hair trim, a toucan and a donkey.

That capybara is the connective tissue with the display Imagineering had already set up on the D23 floor. Chispi, Antonio's capybara companion, appeared there as a finished animated figure with individual whiskers. Disney did not say whether that figure is one of the 50 or a separate character piece.

What Disney still has not said

The naming reveal arrived without the operational details planners actually need. There is still no opening date for the ride itself, only the 2027 window for Tropical Americas as a whole. Disney has not stated a ride length, has not confirmed vehicle capacity (floor reporting from D23 put it at eight guests per vehicle, in two rows of four), and has said nothing about whether the attraction will use Lightning Lane at launch.
