New Aerials Show Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Track Snaking Behind Music Plaza as Universal Re-Turfs the Concert Lawn

Aerial photographer bioreconstruct posted four new photos of Universal Studios Florida on Friday evening, and they show Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift reading like an actual roller coaster. A continuous line of gray track now dips and rises directly behind Music Plaza Stage, arcs over the service corridor beside the park's numbered soundstages, and runs toward the taller structures near the front of the park. In his words, there is also "turf replacement and utility work in progress in the Plaza", and the photos back that up: the concert lawn is stripped to its base panels across roughly half its checkerboard.

What the photos show

The close-in shots are the story. A camelback hill of track crests the corridor between the stage and the soundstage row, with the soundstage numbers (18, 21, 22, 23) visible on the buildings it threads past. Behind the stage's arched roof, the track drops into a low dip that passes immediately behind the structure, close enough that the stage and the coaster should share a skyline from the lawn. Blue support columns are in place beyond the finished sections, several with track segments staged on the ground beside them, and crews were photographed mid-lift with a crane.

The wider overview puts the route in context: track now runs as a continuous line from the cluster of taller elements near the front of the park, where the 170-foot spike went vertical at the end of May, down the length of the soundstage row. The site is the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit footprint, and with the old coaster's skyline gone, the new layout finally shows its own shape.

The Music Plaza work

The lawn in front of the stage is the park's main concert viewing area, and it is getting a refresh: turf panels pulled up in an alternating pattern, fresh material staged in rolls, and lengths of white pipe laid out on the grass for the utility work bioreconstruct describes. Universal has not said anything official about the plaza work, but the timing is practical. The area already borders an active construction zone, so tearing up the lawn now folds one disruption into another rather than saving it for a quieter season.

Where the project stands

The photos cap an eight-week stretch of rapid visible progress. The 170-foot spike, the ride's signature vertical element, began rising over the site at the end of May. By June 11, supports and the first track had gone in on the "bunny hop," the series of small hills expected to carry the launch hardware that fires trains toward the spike. Now the track reads as one continuous route along the soundstage corridor.

Orlando ParkStop reported in March that the project's Notices of Commencement list June 30, 2027 as the completion date for major work, which lines up with the 2027 opening window Universal has signaled. The ride is a drifting coaster: its vehicles rotate 360 degrees independently of the track, simulating the film franchise's signature slides.

The franchise handoff

The timing has a certain symmetry. Fast & Furious: Supercharged, the screen-based dark ride elsewhere in the park, closes for good on August 17, about a year earlier than first signaled. By the time Hollywood Drift opens in 2027, Universal will have moved the franchise from a dark ride to a marquee outdoor coaster, with a gap of at least several months in between.

For visitors this summer, the construction corridor is walled off but the park operates normally around it, and the plaza fencing leaves the surrounding streets open. The best ground-level view of the new track is likely from the Music Plaza area, where the camelback hill now crests above the fence line.

Universal Designed the HHN 35 Sinners House Around One Scene First, and Its Show Director Says That Is Not Always How Houses Get Built

Universal published a room by room walkthrough of the Sinners haunted house one day before Halloween Horror Nights 35 opens. Show director Ramon Paradoa says the team locked the surreal montage set first and designed the scenes before and after it around that, which he says is not always how Universal builds a house. The Sinners house was not on the paid lights on tour that matched three other HHN 35 houses to their codenames last week.

Universal is selling a $20 light up necklace that signals you do not want to be scared at Halloween Horror Nights 35, just not in the houses

The 2026 Deathly Afraid necklace is on shelves at Universal Studios Florida two days before Halloween Horror Nights 35 opens. It glows red as a signal that you would rather not be scared out in the open, in scare zones and other common areas. It does not guarantee a scare free night, and it is not to be switched on inside a haunted house.
